In Post Notes, I add some additional thoughts or context to a blog post I’ve previously written. The original post can be found here.
- As with many of my posts, I’ve been really wanting to write this for a while. However, with the recent devastation in Puerto Rico, I knew I had to publish this soon. I have a bunch of good friends who live on the island, and I am absolutely horrified at the lack of response from the Trump administration.
- I’m not sure how to quantify this, but I think a part of the issue is that most people who live stateside, simply don’t know or not aware of the US territories. I could be totally wrong about this, but I think a genuine lack of knowledge is to blame. The media and schools do not do a good job of spreading this information.
- I am not quite sure what the argument is for retaining the Jones Act, which prohibits ships from other countries to go to Puerto Rico unless routed through a stateside port. It should be done away with altogether, but at the very least temporarily for storm relief.
